Some of these tools do not yet work, but I've included them anyway, so that you might be enlightened about how to use the library or to shame me into making them work. On to the Good Stuff. Looking at the various SiRF tools, I should consider abstracting much of their specific magicks into the SiRF module and then unifying them into one control tool. Or not. *shrug* gar-sniff.pl -------------- This program attempts to decode the Garmin messages transmitted by my eTrex receiver. Yet Another sniffer type program. garmin.pl -------------- Generic Garmin control program. Or at least it will be. This doesn't work, and probably doesn't even compile. Thus the reason it's not even imported to CVS. nmea-time.pl -------------- I was thinking about turning this into some sort of time synchronization widget. Haven't done the time calculations yet, and quite frankly I'm not sure this is even a good idea. Still, for those who want to go rummaging about with NMEA data, here's one way to do it. nmea-tool.pl -------------- NMEA-driven, curses status monitor that also kicks out graphs. This would probably make a good framework for implementing something like SiRFdemo or VisualGPS. nmea.pl -------------- NMEA driven data dumper. sirfdb -------------- This program connects to a SiRFstarII(e/lp) - possibly other SiRF chips too - turns on full logging and then stuffs the messages into a database in real time. Handy for developing decoders for the various messages, or for doing post-processing. sirfdbget -------------- This program is an example of how to pull measurements from the aforementioned database. I also have some fairly moldy C code that does something similar. sirfdump -------------- This program reads a packet dump file from disk and prints out the contents, either as a short packet type dump, or a full verbose decode. sirfproto -------------- This program is used to force the protocol and speed of serial port 1 on a SiRF chip to whatever we request. Handy if someone gives you a receiver in binary mode and you want NMEA, or if the receiver has defaulted to the wrong speed or protocol. sirftool.pl -------------- This program is somewhat similar to sirfdb, except that it can write SiRF packets to disk for later consumption. testdecode -------------- A shell for decoding SiRF packets. I should probably change this to allow for a packet to be read in from a pipe or be specified on the command line. textplot.pl -------------- This program converts the Garmin simple text output format into something a bit more gnuplot friendly timesirfer -------------- As the SiRF chip gives us time to the microsecond, I could use that to build a timeserver. Poll time at about 10Hz and use that to steer the clock. I don't yet have good steering and jitter suppression models, but I've not forgotten about this.
