NAME Dimedis::Ddl - Database Independent DDL Layer DESCRIPTION This module allows to create database independent applications with Perl, not only on the data transport layer, as provided by DBI, but also on the DDL layer. You define your data model using a simple database independent notation, which is in fact a well formed Perl data structure. Dimedis::Ddl reads this data model description and creates the DDL code for a specific RDBMS which can be executed using DBI. It also generates a simplified data model description, which can be used by Dimedis::Sql to operate in a database independent way at runtime. Refer to the manpage of Dimedis::Sql for details. Dimedis::Ddl currently supports the following RDBMS: * Oracle * MySQL (>= 4.0.13) * Microsoft MS-SQL * Sybase Adaptive Server Support for other RDBMS can be added easily by implementing corresponding Dimedis::DdlDriver:: modules. USING Dimedis::Ddl Dimedis::Ddl has two interfaces: * An object oriented API, which enables you to put Dimedis::Ddl support straight into your application. * The dddl command line program, which takes the data model description from a file and generates the DDL code for the RDMBS of your choice. This is for easy integration in shell scripts and such. INSTALLING Dimedis::Ddl perl Makefile.PL make make test make install DOCUMENTATION Currently the documentation of this module is available in German only. There are several manpages: Dimedis::Ddl::Config This manpage describes the Perl data structure which defines your data model. dddl This manpage describes the command line tool dddl. Dimedis::Ddl This manpage describes the Dimedis::Ddl API. You need to read this only if you plan to add native Dimedis::Ddl support to your application at Perl level. NOTE The module name Dimedis::Ddl is subject to change, because having the company's name in the module's namespace isn't a good idea for publically available modules. Namespace suggestions are welcome, please send them to the author. AUTHOR Joern Reder COPYRIGHT Copyright (C) 1999-2003 by dimedis GmbH, 50672 Koeln, Germany All Rights Reserved.
